Breaking our journey to Longreach at Barcaldine for lunch, we stumbled upon the story of key role Barcaldine in the establishment of the Australian Labour Movement on a history walk through the town.
As we journeyed through Augathella, Tambo, Blackall and Barcaldine we experienced a flavour of real outback towns, that ranges from Aussie childhood characters and origins of some Aussie slang and memorials to events that still influence our political and social life today.
An unexpected pleasure of our evening in Bourke was the opportunity to have a wonderfully cooked meal, along with yarns and music around a campfire. It was called Poetry on a Plate and was presented by Kidman's Camp Caravan Park. The MC and performer was local newspaper editor Frank Povah.
It was really great to catch up with two sets of dear deeply loved friends who, like us, find themselves embarking on new stages of life in new locations
